New edition of the Copa MX had started

Some teams were making their season debuts.

MEXICO – With eight games on Tuesday night the third edition of the rebranded cup competition in Mexico began. This time with a real prize at stake; the winner of this season's Copa MX will win the "Mexico 3" slot in the next edition of the Copa Libertadores. This should make all teams take the competition a little more seriously than before.

Chivas of Guadalajara played their first ever game in this newly rebranded cup, as well as made their season debut since their first league game was postponed. Santos as well as Chivas was making their season debut due to inactivity in week one of league play, and was competition in the Copa MX for the first time.

Celaya 0-3 Morelia: Juan Jose Govea have the visitors the lead in the 49th minute, Ever Guzman scored the second in the 75th minute, and Armando Zamorano in the 79th minute sealed the win for Morelia.

Puebla 2-2 Altamira: Once again Puebla salvages a draw in the final minute of play; just like this past weekend in week one of the league. Ronaldo Gonzalez gave the visitors the lead in the 60th minute, Two minutes later Brayan Martinez tied the score for Puebla. Leonardo Garcia gave the lead to the second division side in the 76th minute and Abraham Ruiz saved the day for Puebla in the 89th minute.

Pachuca 1-0 Lobos BUAP: The "tuzos" got the one goal win over second division side at home thanks to a goal by youth product Emilio Garcia.

Veracruz 0-0 Alebrijes Oaxaca: The newest members of the first division controlled the game and possession but were unable to break down the second division side's defensive structure.

Santos 3-0 Zacatepec: Santos who did not have a week one league game made their season presentation with a big three goal win at home. A little after halftime the home side got the goals going; Mauro Cejas in the 47th minute opened up the scoring. The Mexico U20 player Alonso Escoboza scored the second in the 60th minute and Carlos Darwin Quintero finished off the scoring in the 74th minute.

Atletico San Luis 0-1 Queretaro: The team who achieved relegation on the field faced the team that actually got relegated. And it was the ones who managed to stay in first division who won the game with an injury time goal by Yasser Corona when it all seemed like a 0-0 draw was going to be the final score.

Necaxa 1-2 Chivas: The Guadalajara side made their presentation into this new season and in the newly branded cup. Patricio Araujo gave Chivas the 0-1 lead in the 61st minute; Giovani Hernandez with a superb goal in the 78th minute doubled the Chivas lead. For the home side Eduardo Lillingstone got them on the board in the 83rd minute.

Atlas 1-1 Estudiantes: Atlas once again salvaged a draw in the final minutes of the game; just like against Xolos in week one of league play. But they would have been looking to win this one. The former Club America player Lugiani Gallardo gave the second division side the lead with a superb free kick goal. Jair Barraza salvaged the game for the home side in the 85th minute.
