MLS All-Stars 1-3 AS Roma: Italian class too much for MLS to handle

Slow paced Roma easily defeats the best from the MLS

KANSAS CITY – The best players in Major League Soccer took on Italian Serie A side AS Roma. The Italian squad is in the middle of their preseason training and not in the best shape possible. But their class on the pitch was still too much for the MLS side to handle.

The Italians got off to a fast start and did not let the MLS side settle. In the 3rd minute of play Kevin Stootman opened up the scoring for Roma after a long pass from Florenzi. Two minutes later Roma would find the back of the net once again, but this time the assistant referee waived off the goal due to an offside position.

In the 7th minute team icon Francesco Totti grabbed the ball in midfield and sent in a long ground cross field pass to Florenzi who could not finish off the second goal for the Italians.

In the 16th minute Di Vaio had the first chance for the MLS as he appeared all alone in the right side of the field, he dribbled into the box and had a shot that deflected off of a defender into the corner.

Roma who are still in preseason and not in the best physical shape took their foot off the gas for the rest of the first half, but the American side was not able to take advantage of that to equalize the game.

For the second half the Italians once again came out with fire in their feet and in the 47th minute doubled their lead through Florenzi after a great ground cross from Balzaretti.

The MLS side had to chase the game from that point on, and true to the Italian nature AS Roma held off the attacks from the Americans and with quick one touch passing found the third that Junior Tallo finished off.

The home fans in Kansas City did get something to cheer in stoppage time as Omar Gonzalez headed in a Camilo free kick to make the score 1-3. The game ended seconds after the kickoff to restart the game.
