LA Galaxy 3-1 Juventus: Galaxy beats Italians Juventus

Galaxy wins the second of the double header.

LOS ANGELES – The two time consecutive MLS champions Los Angeles Galaxy defeat the two time consecutive Italian champions Juventus 3-1 in the second match of the doubloe header at Dodger Stadium. Galaxy will now play for the fifth place position.

Galaxy controlled the possession during the first half; Juventus sat back and looked to counter attack with speed in the early minutes but decided to sit back a majority of the time. Galaxy passed the ball around in the middle of the field but really struggled to break through the Italian defense.

Omar Gonzalez became a difference maker with a surprise run up the field. The Mexican-America defender passed the ball in the middle and kept running up the field. Juninho put in a great through ball to Gonzalez who chipped the charging Buffon to open up the scoring in the 35th minute.

The joy of the lead did not last long for the home team as three minutes later Juventus who pushed up the field with determination after the goal found an equalizer through Alessandro Matri who stroked in a rebound after Rowe the Galaxy keeper had saved a shot from Fabio Quagliarella. Rowe got a touch on the rebound shot but could not prevent the ball from going in.

Similar story played out in the second half; LA Galaxy controlled the possession of the ball while Juventus sat back, defended and tried to use the quick counterattacks to produce danger. Galaxy made their domination pay off in the 59th minute when Marcelo Sarvas stole the ball in midfield, gave it to Robbie Kean who ran down the left wing and sent in a low cross to where Landon Donovan ran in and tapped the ball into the goal.

Robbie Kean would seal the win for the home side in the 87th minute. Historic Italian midfielder Andrea Pirlo tried to pass the ball to his keeper, and Kean ran on and intercepted the pass and finished off the game with the third goal for the Galaxy.

Both LA Galaxy and Juventus will now travel to Miami where the LA side will play for the fifth place position; while Juventus will play to avoid finishing last place in this eight team tournament.
