Jorge Almiron: "It was not a good game"

The one positive for Almiron was that there were no injuries.

With information from correspondent Victor Zelada:

EL SALVADOR - Jorge Almiron spoke after the match in which his team debuted in the CONCACAF Champion's League with a scoreless draw against El Salvador's L.A. Firpo in the Cuscatlan stadium.

"El Negro" Almiron praised the fact that the team got a point on the road and recognized that they'll have a crucial game against Pumas on Friday night. Additionally he highlighted the fact that no one got injured, looks like this was a concern traveling into Central America.

"It was not a good game, but its always good to get a point on the road. Now we have a crucial game against Pumas. But the important thing was no player got injured."

Jorge Almiron admitted he did watch three games on tape where he recognized some of their virtues like their long distance free kicks, which were not effective in this match.

"We saw three games from this team, the one they played against Morelia, last season's championship game, and their season opener against Aguila. I knew of their strengths like the long distance free kicks, I studied them well because I wanted the win but just didn't happen. But I leave pleased because the team played well."

He concluded with the fact that his team was the better one out on the field, but that is never enough. He'd like put excuses aside and move on.

"We had clear goal scoring opportunities, the team managed the ball very well. It wasn't in our best interest to go play a physical game. They sat back and looked for counter attacks, we had the clearest goal scoring play but we just couldn't make it happen. The field was not in good conditions, but that is no excuse, it was so for both teams. Now we have to make this point count with a win at home when they come to play us."
