Tijuana Xolos vs Pumas UNAM: Time to take advantage of Pumas’ bad form

Tijuana Xolos will want to use Pumas as a stepping stone.

TIJUANA – Only two complete days off since their last match, Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles returns to action. After having played a difficult match in El Salvador in their CONCACAF Champion’s League (CCL) debut Tijuana Xolos returns home to face the next Liga MX fixture which is against struggling Mexico City side Pumas UNAM.

Club Tijuana vs Pumas UNAM is scheduled for Friday August 9 at 7:30PM local time at the Estadio Caliente in Tijuana. It will be part of the 5th week of the Apertura 2013 season of the Liga Bancomer MX.

The Xolos will want to take advantage of the bad form Pumas find themselves in to avoid going into a rut themselves. Xolos lost their last league game 2-1 in a visit to Morelia, and then drew 0-0 in a visit to Luis Angel Firpo in the CCL. Now back on home ground Tijuana needs the win to avoid going into a three game winless streak and have pressure start to build up.

Pumas UNAM do come in with all of the pressure built against them, they are winless in their last six official Liga MX games dating back to last season, In the four games so far this season they have only managed to score once. They are coming off of a 0-2 home loss to Tigres UANL and 1-1 draw against second division Leones Negros in the Copa MX. Manager Antonio Torres Servin could be living his final days as Pumas manager if he doesn’t manage the win against Xolos. Fans have already started to demand the return of club legend Hugo Sanchez.

Tijuana Xolos manager Jorge Almiron might be forced to make some changes to his starting lineup with the consideration of the game on Tuesday night, plus the long travel back home on Wednesday. There is also no word yet on how serious of an injury new signing Dario Benedetto sustained last Saturday against Morelia. Benedetto was sent back to Tijuana following the weekend match and did not travel to Central America for the CCL fixture.
