Tijuana Xolos 2-0 Pumas UNAM: Confidence building win

Raul Enriquez returns to lead Tijuana Xolos to victory.

TIJUANA – Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles returned to winning ways on Friday night in the Estadio Caliente with their 2-0 win over Pumas UNAM. All time club leading goal scorer Raul Enriquez was called up a few days ago from second division affiliate and lead the team to their second win of the young season.

The Xolos got off to a fast start, Fidel Martinez took the ball and dribbled down the the left wing line and sent in a low cross that was barely cut down by the Pumas defense when the game was only 15 seconds old

Martinez made himself present on the score sheet in the ninth minute. Cristian Pellerano float in a cross to where Raul Enriquez re-crossed the ball to Martinez who seemed to be in an offside position, but the assistant referee did not raise his flag and Martinez just had to push in the ball with his head.

Pumas UNAM with all of that they are carrying of being winless in their last six games became very aggressive, lots of hard challenges and fouls started to fly as well as the yellow cards. In spite of their need to push forward Pumas could not generate any danger on Saucedo's goal.

Fidel Martinez once again got the half started out quickly with a fast counter attack in the 48th minute. Candido Ramirez of Pumas was forced to foul him and take the yellow card in order to avoid Martinez going in on goal. Ramirez would later see another yellow card and be ejected from the game in the 75th minute.

Tijuana Xolos doubled their lead in the 58th minute through the club legend Raul Enriquez, the all time leading Xolos goal scorer. Fernando Arce took a corner kick in on the right side which was flicked on by Richard Ruiz at the front post, Enriquez put in a header right in fron of the goalkeeper in the middle of the six yard box.

With the win Club Tijuana are now 2 wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss, through with seven points through four games.

Next up for the Xoloitzcuintles is a trip to Monterrey to face the "Rayados". There will be no midweek CONCACAF Champion's League action for the Xolos.
