Chula Vista will go to the Little League World Series

Tijuana already traveled to Williamsport

SAN DIEGO – A few weeks ago the Tijuana Municipal team won their way into the Little League World Series (LLWS) in Williamsport after winning a national tournament in Mexico; something historic since Tijuana has never had a team in the LLWS. Now to make things more special for the region the East Lake Little League All-Stars of Chula Vista has also won their way into the LLWS after winning the Western Regional Tournament.

The Southern California team defeated the Belmont Redwood All-Star Little League team with a score of 9-0; avenging their only loss that they suffered at the hands of the Northern California team last Wednesday in the regular season.

Chula Vista becomes the 10th team from San Diego County to qualify into the LLWS and the second team from the city of Chula Vista since 2009 when Park View Little League All-Star qualified and went on to win the LLWS.

To reach the LLWS the Chula Vista team had to get through the Northern California team, Arizona, Hawaii, Nevada, and Utah.

They will join Tijuana in Williamsport

In weeks prior the infant and youth baseball league in Tijuana managed to win a national tournament in Mexico to become the first team from the border city to qualify into the LLWS.

The team traveled to Williamsport on Saturday with a few problems with their lay over in Chicago.

Tijuana will represent Mexico and will face the Perth Metro Central League of Australia on Thursday August 15 at 1:00PM pacific time. East Lake of Chula Vista will represent the West and will play their first game on Friday August 16 against Grosse Pointe Woods-Shores of Michigan who will be representing the Great Lakes; game will be at 12:00 noon pacific time.
