Three mexicans will be hanged for drug dealing in Malaysia

The sentence has been confirmed

Bangkok.- The court of appeals in Malaysia confirmed the sentence of death by hanging today for three Mexican brothers Gonzalez Villareal, convicted 2 years ago for the crime of drug dealing.

The three magistrates of the court rejected the appeal of the brothers Luis Alfonso, Simón and Jose Regino, whom can only appeal to the Federal Court and finally request a royal pardon to escape the death penalty.

"Unfortunately, their request has been denied, we will present an appeal to the Federal Court as soon as possible", Kitson Foong, the three brothers' lawyer, expressed on the phone with EFE.

The Mexicans were detained on march 4th 2008 in a raid realized by the Malaysian Police in the city of Johor, along with another Malaysian citizen and another from Singapore, who have also been sentenced to death.

The lawyer was unable to convince the court that the brothers were only in charge of cleaning and that they were detained on the outside of the ship where the agents found 29 kilograms of methamphetamine, a stash valued at 15 million dollars. However the prosecutor argued that drug traces were found on the clothed and hands of the accused.

According to a reported from the Mexican Newspaper "Milenio", the three bothers, originally from the Mexican state of Sinaloa, came out with their heads bowed in shame from the courtroom in Kuala Lumpur after hearing the verdict.

Another way to escape the death penalty is that the Malaysia justice court replaced the charges for drug dealing for drug possession, which would change the penalty for a lengthy stay in prison as well as a punishment of lashing on their buttocks.

The Mexican brothers lawyer also argues that a third of the methamphetamine stash went "missing" after it was being recovered by the police, which technically should, in his opinion, nullify the judicial process over a violation of his client's fundamental rights.

Although Sinaloa is known for harboring one of the largest drug cartels, the Mexican brothers have no criminal record and grew up in a humble family of 7 brothers, where the youngest died in a robbery gone wrong.
