MONTERREY, NL Big week for Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles will begin this Saturday when they travel into Monterrey for a big test away from the comforts of the Estadio Caliente. This will be the tenth time the sides meet each other since Tijuana won its promotion into Mexicos first division.
Monterrey vs Club Tijuana is scheduled for Saturday August 17 at 7:00PM local Monterrey time (5:00PM pacific) at the Estadio Tecnologico in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon.
The Xoloitzcuintles will be looking for their first road win under new manager Jorge Almiron. So far Almiron has one loss in the local Liga Bancomer MX league; a 2-1 loss when they traveled to Morelia. And a 0-0 draw that the Xolos got in El Salvador against the reigning El Salvadorian champions Luis Angel Firpo in the CONCACAF Champions League (CCL).
Monterrey on the other hand will be looking for their first of the new season. They currently sit on 15th place out of 18 with three draws and two losses.
Tijuana Xolos manager Jorge Almiron might be forced to rotate the squad due to international games this past week and the upcoming trip to Honduras to face Club Deportivo Victoria in the second game of the CCL group stage.
Meanwhile Monterreys star signing Dorlan Pabon is as of right a doubt for this game, due to the supposed interest from Valencia in Spain. Pabon was signed by Monterrey six months ago, but barely reported with the reigning CCL Champions this season. Pabon has played the first five games of the season with the Rayados but could be on his way back out. Pabon has been a huge reason why they have accumulated those draws and not losses; he would be a big loss to Victor Manuel Vucetichs side.
