Presidential band placed on an image of Christ

This happened during the celebration of the Lord of Jalpan

In Ixmiquilpan, Hidalgo, the mayor, Cipriano Chárrez Pedraza, placed a presidential band on the Christ of Jalpan, in the Archangel San Miguel Church.

In the town hall's Facebook page, an image was uploaded with the mayor placing the band on the Christ, with the help of the church's priest.

What happened to the separation of church and state? Setting that aside for a moment, the only person authorized to wear the presidential band is, as the name indicates, the President of the Republic, and this is stated in article 34 of the "Political Constitution of the United States of Mexico" which reads as follows:"It constitutes a form of presentation of the National Flag, it is an Emblem of the Executive Federal Power, which is why it will only be worn by the President of the Republic" Also noting that he will only do so in official events and events of great importance to the nation such as: the commemoration of the "Grito de Dolores" (The rallying cry of Dolores, which started the nations independence), September 15th, and receiving credential letters from ambassadors and reputable ministers before the Mexican Government.

What do you think of this act? Opinions have been varied, from protests to applause for the mayor since they consider that good and the church are the supreme power.

Although it is true that most Mexicans practice Catholic religion, there is supposed to be a separation of church and state.
