TIJUANA – Juan Carlos Nuñez who had a phenomenal season last season was able to finally make his season debut in last weekend’s loss to Chiapas after shaking off an injury. Nuñez mentioned that the team wishes they were a little higher up in the table, but the results are not going their way.
“The team is sad because we figured we’d have more points right now. But there is nothing more we can do about those games, all we can do is keep working hard and get the next three points here at home” said “El Diablito” Nuñez.
Defensive concentration is a key aspect that the Xolos have to work on according to Juan Carlos. “We have to be very concentrated in the back, if we don’t receive any goals the team can score at any given moment. We can start to pick up three points at a time like that.”
Why can’t Xolos perform on the road with the quality that they have shown at home? Nuñez doesn’t believe there is any one specific reason, rather a number a factors.
“There are a lot of different factor that influence that. For example in Chiapas they eject a player in the second minute which hindered us the entire game. We still fought hard and scored first, but it didn’t work out. Now we need to keep on working hard for the next three points” explained Nuñez.
Juan Carlos Nuñez finalized be reassuring everyone that he is 100% recovered from his injury which had him sitting out all of this season up until last weekend. “I’m fully recovered, training along side all of my teammates and at the manager’s disposal. I’m glad to be back playing, sad because of the result but hopefully we turn it around this weekend at home” finalized Nuñez.
Last weekend during the 3-1 defeat that Club Tijuana suffered, team captain Javier Gandolfi was shown a red card in the second minute of play, leaving the Xolos with one less player practically the entire game. Federation officials have reviewed the play and decided to lift the suspension that normally follows an ejection. Gandolfi will be eligiable to play on Saturday night when the Xolos face Veracruz in the Estadio Caliente.
