Tijuana Xolos vs Veracruz: Important mid season clash

Home dominance need for Tijuana Xolos to stay alive.

TIJUANA - Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles welcome to town the Liga Bancomer MX’s newest members Veracruz. The Xolos will be looking to continue their home dominance in order to offset the negative away results.

The match is scheduled for Saturday September 7 at 7:30PM local time at the Estadio Caliente and will be part of the 9th week of the Apertura season of the Liga Bancomer MX.

The Xoloitzcuintles were forced to change their regular Friday night schedule and play on Saturday night due to the fact that their normal scheduled clashes with the Mexico vs Honduras game in the CONCACAF World Cup Qualification. Liga Bancomer MX is one of the few leagues in the world that does not stop their domestic action for these World Cup Qualifications and opts to just play without any international players.

Club Tijuana currently have a seven game undefeated streak going dating back to last season and last season’s Copa Libertadores. This strong showing at home has prevented the club to from being one of the worst teams in the league since they have lost all away matches so far. Xolos desperately need a win following last week’s 3-1 loss to relegation threaten Chiapas FC.

Xolos have received some good news during the week. During last weekend’s 3-1 loss team captain Javier Gandolfi was ejected from the game in the second minute of play. There is usually a minimum one game suspension following an ejection, but the federation officials have considered the ejection unjust and overturned his suspension. Gandolfi will be available to play this game. The other piece of good news is that Tijuana will not have the three absences they thought they would have due to international World Cup Qualifiers. Fernando Arce (México), Edgar Castillo (USA), and Pablo Aguilar (Paraguay) were all called up by their National Teams. But Aguilar has been sent back home by the Paraguayan Federation.

Aguilar has a medical condition which is being treated in the United States, Paraguayan Federation doctors considered this medical condition too much of a risk on the player’s life if he played. The federation decided to not to use Aguilar and send him home. Club Tijuana doctors on the other hand said Aguilar is in perfect conditions to play and will also be available for this match.

The newly promoted Veracruz kicked off this season with a bang reaching the top of league table for several weeks. This great start in most part was due to Angel Reyna their star summer signing. The visitors will be full of confidence after salvaging a point in a game that seemed lost against Tigres last weekend with a last minute goal to tie the game. The Red Sharks of Veracruz will have to play this game without Angel Reyna who is on National Team duty with Mexico, and since they are the recently promoted team they’ll have to keep an eye on their percentage in the relegation race. Walking out of Tijuana with a point will be considered a huge success for the southerners.
