Yet another loss on the road for Xolos

Club Tijuana can’t get anything going away from home.

MEXICO CITY - Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles suffers their 5th loss in 6 away games this season. This time by a score of 2-0 to the hands of the reigning Mexican champions Club America in the Estadio Azteca. This is the first loss that Xolos suffers in the field of the Estadio Azteca; having won and tied in their previous two games there.

The Mexico City team presented six changes to their regular starting lineup; two of them due to National Team call ups and and the other four to rest some players ahead of Saturday’s Super Clasico against Chivas.

Tijuana Xolos on the other hand really missed Javier Gandolfi who was unable to play due to his injury that he picked up in the first half against Puebla last Sunday. The Tijuana side also missed Fernando Arce’s midfield clarity who is currently working with the Mexican National team.

The border side started the match with a lot of intensity and pushed the home side deep into their own box. But without much effort America was able to create a clear goal scoring opportunity that Ecuadorian Narciso Mina headed straight to the hands of Cirilo Saucedo.

Minutes later on a short corner kick Paul Aguilar sent in a strong low cross that was hit by Pablo Aguilar into his own goal to give the champions the 1-0 lead. Narciso Mina once again had a similar diving header and this time he was able to but the ball into the back of the net to double the America lead to 2-0.

For the second half the home side was able to move the ball around with ease and neutralize the Tijuana side. Xolos was unable to create any kind of danger on the Moises Muñoz goal.

The clearest goal scoring opportunity of the second half was at the feet of Mina once again; with a wide open goal Mina put his shot into the post and let the chance escape.

Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles will now return to the border where they’ll take on Queretaro on Friday night. Xolos have been pretty dominate at home this season and will need another big performance to remain in the hunt for the Mexican league playoffs.
