Former Mexican President speaks out about soccer and keeps quiet about the espionage he was victim of

Priorities and concerns of Felipe Calderon an the mexican government

MEXICO.- Since the acts of espionage that were done on Felipe Calderon while he was President of Mexico, people have expected some kind of comment on his behalf, however he has kept quiet with not a single mention of these acts.

Calderon has been known for openly sharing his opinion on Twitter about subjects which are highly discussed in Mexico, he even caused a lot of conversations with his comments about the soccer game between Mexico and Costa Rica by criticizing Mexico's performance and questioning "What had happened?" in reference to the fact that when he was President, Mexico's team had a lot of successes including an Olympic gold medal.

Since October 17th, Felipe Calderon's Twitter account shows no activity. On this date he spoke about a new Mexican highway and previously shared a message from his wife, Margarita Zavala, celebrating 60 years of the feminine vote in Mexico. He also sent his regrets about journalist Ciro Gomez Leyva leaving Milenio Television. Why hasn't he said anything about the fact he was a victim of espionage?

Calderon's silence hurts as much as the current government's. A short message through email arrived to the German magazine "Der Spiegel", who revealed this weekend that Felipe Calderon and his closest collaborators were being spied on by the US government. Also, there were more details on the espionage done on Enrique Peña Nieto and his team before being elected as President of Mexico, all of this is based on the leaked information provided by Edward Snowden.

The email from the mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the actions of the United States, indicating that it was an enormous lack of respect and a violation of national sovereignty and that this would be the only comment of the federal government about the subject.

This weekend, France was added to the list of countries being spied on by the United States and today they have called on the United States Ambassador to give an explanation on the matter. Maybe it's too early to know the French stance, but it is hoped that it will be far from that of Mexico's and a little more akin to Brazil's, who condemned these acts of espionage with reports before international organizations and taking steps to protect both the government's information as well as that of it's citizens by having their own email and internet systems.
