SAN DIEGO - The Mexican National Team trained today in San Diego's Qualcomm Stadium in preparation of their friendly match against Finland tomorrow night. After the practice the wing back Miguel Layun took the time to talk with the press.
Layun has been a constant call up to the Mexican National Team since his overall good performance in the Gold Cup. He knows that the National Team is under heavy criticism and has plenty of experience dealing with that.
"It was a rough time a few years ago, people really had it in for me. But I just had to keep working hard and stay focused." Said Layun who suffered heavy criticism a few years ago for his play at America. Making the hashtag #TodoEsCulpaDeLayun (Everything is Layun's Fault) a worldwide Trending Topic on the social network Twitter. "We know what needs to be done and I am relaxed and know that I am capable of doing it."
Miguel Layun is one of ten Club America players that interim manager Miguel Herrera has called up for this game. Layun sees this as a positive and something that can help his personally.
"Yeah it helps having worked with Herrera day by day. I also feel a lot more comfortable in Herrera's system of five defenders. I can push up and join the attack with the assurance that a center back will cover for me" expressed Layun.
Miguel Layun will be on the starting lineup on Wednesday night at Qualcomm Stadium when Mexico takes on Finland. Layun will most likely be playing on the left wing like he normally does with his club, the fact that he is able of playing on the right wing as well.
