El Tri up 2-1 at halftime at Qualcomm

Lots of energy out on the field

SAN DIEGO - The Mexican National Team is currently winning at halftime 2-1 over Finland in their final friendly match of 2013 at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego. Goals came from Rafael Marquez off a set piece and Carlos Peña after a quick one-two play up the middle.

The Mexican players are running all over the field with lots of energy, pushing the Finland team deep into their own field. Although in the later stages of the first half the "visiting" team broke their defensive shell and pushed up the field and even found a goal off of a set piece to cut the Mexican lead in half.

El Tri took and early lead to settle the nerves when in the 11th minute when Luis Montes sent in a left footed free kick from the right side into the box where his club teammate Rafael Marquez headed the ball into the net.

Carlos Peña added another with a good run up the middle in combination play with Luis Montes and Oribe Peralta. Peña had already had a similar run minutes earlier but had opted to pass the ball instead of shooting.
