Venezuelan president tells opponents to flee to Tijuana

After defeating Henrique Capriles, president Nicolás Maduro told him to go to Tijuana, like César Farías.

VENEZUELA.- The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, told his opponent during these last municipal elections, Henrique Capriles, to follow the example of now Tijuana Xolos head-coach César Farías.

"I think we should call and see if the Tijuana Xolos has any room for Ramón Guillermo Aveledo and for all of his gang from the MUD (Mesa de la Unidad Democrática), including whiner Miranda (Capriles) that was handed a fourth straight defeat", said Maduro during a speech he gave after learning about the election results.

For the sake of context, let's explain the who's who of Maduro's speech. Nicolás Maduro is, of course, Hugo Chávez's successor as president of Venezuela, while Henrique Capriles and Ramón Guillermo Aveledo are leaders of the opposition, while César Farías was the Venezuelan national soccer team's head-coach until recently before resigning in the wake of Venezuela's failure to qualify for the World Cup finals in Brazil next year. Now, Farías head-coaches the Tijuana Soccer Club in Mexico, a team Maduro comically (we hope) referred to as a place of exile for his defeated opponents, Aveledo and Capriles.

"Think about what happened to the soccer coach, beloved by us, César Farías, you saw what happened, he didn't qualify, didn't qualify our national soccer team for the World Club, and, what did he do? he, with dignity and honor, left everything in order and moved on to lead a team over there in Mexico, the Tijuana Xolos", he joked.

Venezuela held local municipal elections this past weekend, ones in which "chavismo" or Maduro's and Chavez's allies, managed to hang on to the most important cities like Maracaibo and Caracas, although the opposition won important states like Valencia and Barinas, but the clear victory went to Maduro and his government, who ended his jab at Capriles by saying "I hope he learns some humility and to know when he has been beaten once again and is honest with the country," adding that "there's enough room for all of them to go to" in Tijuana.
