Brandon Ríos tests positive for doping in fight vs Pacquiao

"Not steroids", said Bob Arum

SAN DIEGO.- Brandon Ríos, former junior welterweight world champion, has tested positive in an antidoping examination carried out after his fight in Macau against Manny Pacquiao, according to according to VADA the Voluntary Anti-doping Association.

[p]"Bam Bam" Ríos, as he's called, had a substance called "Methylhexanamine" in his system, generally used as a nasal decongestants but also increases cardiac rhythm and blood pressure, and so is considered as a potent performance enhancing drug (PED), which is why it made the list of prohibited substances in 2010.

Bob Arum, boxing promoter and Top Rank Inc. CEO, made it clear that it wasn't anything to be alarmed about and as it still could not be determined if it was a steroid for use during the fight with Pacquiao, and very well could've been taken after the weighing.

There will definitely be more information about this case, and questions for Alex Ariza, Ríos's trainer against the Manny Pacquiao duel.
