ENGLAND, UK - While most soccer leagues around the world find themselves out of season (like the United States MLS and Mexicos Liga MX) or just on a Christmas/New Years vacation; the English Barclays Premier League had a full marathon of games today.
The day after Christmas, known as Boxing Day - due to the unwrapped boxes that once sat under Christmas trees - has every team in Englands top division soccer league in action. With games as early as 4:45am for us in pacific time.
Manchester United overcame a two goal deficit inside of 13 minutes and beat Hull City 2-3. Wayne Rooney netted his 150th league goal for United which tied the game 2-2 at the moment. Cross town rivals Manchester City also took a Boxing Day victory as they defeated the team who started the day in first place Liverpool.
Arsenal also had to come from behind to take a 1-3 win over relegation threatened West Ham United. The victory sees the Gunners reclaim the top of the EPL. Chelsea also stayed strong in the race for the league title with a win of their own at home 1-0 over Swansea City.
Elsewhere United States Mens national Team (USMNT) goalkeeper Tim Howard saw his first career red card in the EPL as he was sent off in the first half. His team Everton ended up taking a 1-0 to USMNT teammate Jozy Altidore and his Sunderland side.
Newcastle United continued their impressive form with a 5-1 thrashing of Stoke City, Aston Villa fell at home 0-1 to Crystal Palace, Southampton got an important away 0-3 win over Cardiff City, Fulham who just announced the return of USMNT captain Clint Dempsey got a 1-2 away win over Norwich, and finally Tottenham Hotspur and West Bromwich played out to a 1-1 draw.
