Kickoff Time for Xolos

New season about to begin for Tijuana Xolos

Versión Español

GUADALAJARA - Club Tijuana Xoloizcuintles de Caliente will kickoff a brand new season on Saturday when they visit "La Perla Tapatia" (The Pacific Pearl); Guadalajara, Jalisco to take on Atlas.

Atlas vs Tijuana is scheduled for Saturday January 4 at 9:00pm local time (7:00pm Pacific) from the Estadio Jalisco in Guadalajara.

Tijuana Xolos will need to get to a quick start to the new season and pick up points as fast as possible before their double tournament duties begin in March. Especially against teams considered weaker opposition like Atlas who will be fighting to avoid relegation this season.

During last semester's encounter between the two red/black teams Argentine forward Dario Benedetto made his Liga MX debut with Tijuana with a Hat-Trick at the Estadio Caliente, but the Xoloitzcuintles were not able to take the three points as the game ended in a 3-3 draw.

Bendetto was not the only to make his debut in that six-goal thriller; former manager Jorge Almiron was also making his debut in a top flight league with the Xolos.

Once again against Atlas, Tijuana will debut a manager as former Venezuelan National Team manager Cesar Farias will be in charge of his first official match as the Xolos' boss. Other possible debuts for Saturday will be central defender Hernan Pellerano (brother to defensive midfielder Cristian Pellerano), and Ecuadorian striker Jaimen Ayovi.

Atlas also went through radical changes from the conclusion of the Apertura 2013 to the start of this Clausura 2014. Television giant TV Azteca bought the team from it's over 100 shareholders. Under the new management, Atlas has brought back controversial manager Tomas Boy who two season ago lead the team away from relegation and into a playoff spot.

POSSIBLE XOLOS LINEUP:

Cirilo Saucedo, Juan Carlos Nuñez, Javier Gandolfi, Hernan Pellerano, Edgar Castillo, Cristian Pellerano, Fernando Arce, Javier Güemez, Paul Arriola, Fidel Martinez, Dario Benedetto
