Another road game, another loss for Tijuana Xolos

The struggles continue for Xolos on the road.

TORREON - Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Calinete suffer yet another loss on road, this time 3-2 against Santos Laguna. Xolos could not mark the special occasion of their 100th first division match by breaking the negative and suffocating statistic that says they can't win on the road in over a year.

The home side Santos Laguna were full of confidence following their Tuesday night Copa Libertadores win over Arsenal de Sarandi. They were able to control the match from beginning to end. Santos were benefited from a controversial penalty call that paved the way to a well deserved victory.

Tijuana offence still can't click and key defensive errors following some quality passing from Santos also contributed to Xolos suffering their third loss in their last three matches away from home. The scoring got under way when Juan Pablo "Chato" Rodriguez converted a penalty kick.

Center referee Roberto Garcia Orozco signaled to the spot after Juan Carlos Nuñez turned his body after a close range shot and had the ball struck his hand on the edge of the box. Orozco did not hesitate and awarded the PK to the home side right away.

Minutes later Tijuana goalkeeper Cirilo Saucedo did not help out the Xolos cause by coming off his line to cut down a cross and failing to do so properly. Santos' Argentine midfielder Mauro Cejas took advantage of the rebound and tapped the ball into a wide open net to double the lead for the home side.

Club Tijuana found some hope mid way through the first half. Once again defensive midfielder Christian Pellerano smashed in a lose ball in the box to cut the deficit in half. This was Pellerano's fourth goal of the season and leads the Tijuana score chart.

The match wet to the break with the home side up by one. But early in the second half Carlos Darwin Quintero re-gave Santos the two goal lead. Young Xolos defender Elio Castro lost the mark on Quintero who was fed a through ball to go head to head against Saucedo and finish to make the score 3-1.

Once again Club Tijuana found a ray of hope. Fidel Martinez cut the deficit to one goal after he beat out his defender in a long pass. Martinez corssed his shot to beat Oswaldo Sanchez. Xolos manager Cesar Farias wasted no time and sent in two offensive substitutions right after the goal. He sent in the American duo Herculez Gomez and Joe Corona in search of an equalizing goal.

Joe Corona came close to finding that equalizing goal after he found a lose ball in the box and put in a low shot. Unfortunately for him and Tijuana Oswaldo Sanchez was able to get down and prevent the ball from going in.

The Xoloitzcuintles kept on the offensive pressure the rest of the game while the home side looked to hold on to the one goal lead and to pick up a fourth goal on the counter attack. Mexican National Team striker Oribe Peralta had put the ball into the back of the net, put the goal was disallowed for an offside position. It would have been Peralta's first goal of the season.

The Xoloitzcuintles will now come back to the safty of their border fortress Estadio Caliente to host Chiapas FC in week eight of the Clausura season of LIGA Bancomer MX.
