SAN DIEGO - A new season for the San Diego Flash is right around the corner. But before starting the NAtional Premier Soccer League (NPSL) season opener, the team 4th tier side from San Diego looks to qualify into a historic tournament like the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

The U.S. Open Cup is the official cup competition of the U.S. Soccer federation. Equivalent to England’s FA Cup. It was first organized back in 1914 and this will be the 101th edition of the competition.

The San Diego Flash managed a 3-0 win on Sunday night over local FC Force at the Mira Mesa High School stadium. This has the Flash in the regional final where they will play for a spot in the prestigious cup competition.

Next Saturday night the San Diego Flash will travel to Agoura Hills, California where they will meet a familiar rival; FC Hasental. Both teams fought out the ticket to this competition last year as well as the battled for the top spot in the South-Western Division on the NPSL. The winner from Saturday night’s game will have their ticket to the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
