AGOURA HILLS - San Diego Flash achieved a historic berth into the official cup competition of U.S. Soccer; the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. They defeated FC Hasental with a 1-2 scoreline on the road to obtain this prestigious ticket.

San Diego Flash will be one of the 64 participants in the cup competition that was founded in 1914 and will play it’s 101th edition. Flash might have the opportunity to face off against MLS opponents; the top division teams also compete in this tournament.

The San Diego side had to fight back from a goal down since moments before halftime the home side FC Hasental were awarded a penalty kick that was converted to send the host with the one goal advantage to the break.

In the second half Flash forward Justin Picou scored a brace within six minutes to turn the game around. The first was scored in the 57th minute and the second was scored in the 63rd minute to give the visiting Flash the lead and eventual win.

Next Saturday night San Diego Flash will be making their season debut in the NPSL at Mira Mesa High School.
