LA Galaxy 1-1 Chivas USA: A "Cubo" goal is enough to secure a draw

Erick "Cubo" Torres continues to bang in the goals in MLS.

LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Galaxy and Chivas USA finished in a 1-1 draw on Sunday night at the Stubhub Center. Both team will feel like they could have walked away with all three points; which is a clear indication that the tie is a fair and just result.

The "Super Clasico" as the league and teams have called this match did not live up to the name, but it was still an entertaining match to watch. It was the stronger Galaxy who dominated in the possession of the ball, but Chivas USA had their counterattacks well established and created danger through that.

It was Chivas USA who took the lead in the first half through Mexican international Erick "Cubo" Torres. Midfielder Martin Rivero fed Torres a good through ball in te center of the field. "Cubo" managed to control and turn three defenders before placing the ball into the side netting of the Galaxy goal. Torres was then off to do his trademark Robot Dance Celebration.

With the goal Torres reaches 16 goals in his MLS career which ties the mark left by Mexican legend Cuauhtemoc Blanco for goals scored by a Mexican international.

LA Galaxy continued their game plan of pushing forward with the possession of the ball. They found an equalizer when Brazilian midfielder Marcelo Sarvas sent in a cross from the right side of the field to the second post where Gyasi Zardes was able to header the ball from inside of the six-yard box.

For the second half the Galaxy continued to push Chivas back into their own field but the red and whites continued to hold strong in defense not allowing their rivals the go-ahead goal. Torres continued to be the most dangerous weapon for Chivas through the long passes in the counter attack.

In the end neither team was able to do enough to break the deadlock, Chivas USA managed to hold on to earn a point from their rivals LA Galaxy.
