Baja 500 brought more than 67,000 thousand visitors to Ensenada

Estimate more than 74 million pesos spent by visitors

ENSENADA.- Monday, June 9th, 2014, the 45th annual SCORE Baja 500 was a success and beat expectations, according to Oscar Escobedo of the States's Secretary of Tourism (SECTURE).

"We had such an influx of visitors into Ensenada thanks to the Baja 500, an estimate of 67,800 visitors that visited our municipality to participate in the event or to watch on the side-lines. The race is one of the most famous in the region and at least 22,000 visitors stayed the night at a hotel or motel in the area, which is a result of campaigns pushed by the State Governor, headed by Francisco Vega de la Madrid, according to Escobedo.

He indicated that hotel capacity was at 91.2% capacity, and many hotels were at 100% capacity. According to official estimates, the economic impact to this region during the weekend was more 5.9 million dollars, or the equivalent of 74 million pesos.

Escobedo went on to say, "we are so satisfied with the results of this event and recognize the traditional importance of this event for Baja residents and thousands of US residents who cross the border each year to take part in this sport event and festivities."

According to the official, one of the most successful tourism strategies for this region has been the constant promotion of social, cultural, and sports events and that this year there are 550 diverse events planned.

"It has worked out well for us, and has garnered great interest both by locals and foreigners to take part in our activities, which is proven by the fact that these events are frequently at capacity and demonstrates a clear recovery in our tourism sector." The state official reminds us that the event will be internationally broadcasted in July by CBS Sports Network, followed by various special programs from the event which will bring even more attention to the most important all terrain events in the region.
