Tijuana-Ensenada Toll Road to Reopen September 15

Authorities Anticipate Permanent Solution

ENSENADA.- Authorities from the Federal Highways and Bridges Department (CAPUFE in Spanish) have confirmed that the collapsed portion of the Tijuana-Ensenada toll road will reopen and be operational by September 15th of this year, and is currently underway in its final stages of reconstruction.

Baja Governor Kiko Vega commended the construction efforts and coordination that has been involved amongst various levels of government in order to offer a permanent and safe road to the public as expeditiously as possible. Efforts have been underway since the collapsed portion at K93 forced authorities to close the road.

During a recent meeting, Benito Sastre of CAPUFE informed Governor Vega of the progress that has been made in construction which is anticipated to conclude for the scheduled reopening in September.

Governor Vega expressed his approval of the construction efforts thus far and reiterated the importance that driver safety be of primary concern especially given that this road is of such great importance to this region.

It is worth mentioning that this highway is used by millions of drivers each year, and is a vital connection from Tijuana to Ensenada for tourism, cargo transport, and logistics in general.

The Governor concluded that his cabinet will continue to follow-up on the progress of these projects and reiterated his willingness to continue working in this fashion in conjunction with federal authorities, namely CAPUFE and the Secretary of Roads and Transportation (SCT), and to local municipalities until this project has finalized.
