Argentina and Germany struggle, but still pick up points

The underdogs continue to have a loud bark at the World Cup.

BRAZIL - In Saturday's action of the World Cup we once again saw the little teams step up and fought toe-to-toe against the big teams. The outcome was not as favorable as in previous days with teams like Costa Rica; but still provided more memorable moments for this World Cup.

In the early match Iran and stood their ground and took heavy-weight favorites Argentina to the brink. It would take a superb strike in compensation time from Lionel Messi to finally beat Iran's defense and goalkeeper, in what was practically the final play of the match.

The match had remain scoreless through 90 minutes because of the well organized Iranian defense. The middle-eastern side did manage to control the match for a good section of the second half.

Argentina did take control of the match in the final 20 minutes of the match, but Iran still looked dangerous in the counterattacks. It had to be Lionel Messi who stepped up to get the game winning goal in the final minute.

Germany also struggled with Ghana

The mighty powerful German team who took a 4-0 win in its first match against Portugal, was held to a 2-2 draw against African powerhouse Ghana. Germany dominated most of the match but could not find a way to get a winner.

Germany struggled all first half to finish off their chances that they created in the wide positions, while the Africans mustered up some dangerous counterattacks of their own.

A similar script was played out in the second half only with better finishing. Germany took the lead through Mario Gotze who was able to finish off a Thomas Muller cross.

Ghana was able to turn the match around with two in eight minutes with strikes from Andre Aywe and Asamoah Gyan. But the Africans could not hold on to the lead as the allowed a record equalizing goal from second half sub Miroslav Klose. The German reaches Ronaldo's record of 15 World Cup goals.
