TIJUANA.- With the purpose of empowering women from Tijuana to achieve their goals and personal growth, the City of Tijuana has announced the first ever Binational Women's Networking Event to be held at the Tijuana World Trade Center on August 29.

In a press conference, Edna Mireya Perez Corona, Secretary of Municipal Public Education, indicated that creating a place for dialogue that fosters social equity between men and women is one of her administration's goals.

According to the Secretary, "this is the first event of this kind and represents an opportunity for hundreds of women to find out in what ways they can further grow in their jobs and businesses, as there will be panels where directors and public administrators that have excelled in their fields will speak about politics, business, and the media."

Perez Corona describes that the event will include discussion panels on Leadership and Personal Development, as well as Negotiation Strategies, and will be lead by business women from both sides of the border who will be sharing their experiences and can be used as an example for women in Tijuana.

Adriana Mendiolea, head of the civil association Alianza Mujeres por Mujeres (Women for Women Alliance) announced that a conference titled "Gibberish" will take place along with a networking event that has the objective of creating professional networks amongst women in the border region.

According to Mendiolea, "to transform the lives of womens is a permanent goal of this institution; this event is an example of the potential that lies in entrepreneurial women that work on a daily basis to lead in diverse social sectors. The invitation is also extended to men who would like to have a better understanding of the conditions that would enable this society to have more gender equity."
