Tecate's Rancho la Puerta is Named Best Spa in the World

This is the fourth time it's received that title

TECATE.- For the fourth occasion in the past five years, "Rancho la Puerta", located in Tecate, Baja California has received the title of best spa in the world, according to Oscar Escobedo Carignan, the head of Baja's State Tourism Secretary.

Tecate itself is designated as a National "Magical Town", or Pueblo Magico, an official recognition developed by Mexico's Secretary of Tourism to highlight towns with collective importance for nationals and foreigners alike. Tecate is the only Pueblo Magico thus far designated for the State of Baja California, and puts it on a list that includes towns like San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Cholula, and Real de Catorce.

According to Escobedo, "it is an honor for the high quality services offered by Baja California to be recognized, because this puts our name out there and invites people from abroad to visit us" who also highlighted the fact that health and wellbeing tourism is one of the most vital industries in Baja and is a priority for Governor Francisco Vega's administration.

He went on to say that each year Travel+Leisure magazine polls its readership to vote for their favorite spas around the world under a survey titled World's Best Awards, which comprises of four characteristics, quality of service, amenities, ambiance, and cuisine.

"We must recognize the great efforts of our tourism workers and in this case the management and staff at Rancho la Puerta for always staying at the forefront and offering world-class quality; this is a recognition to the hard work and dedication of its staff," stated Escobedo.

He explained that Rancho la Puerta was founded by Edmond and Deborah Szekely in 1940 and has received worldwide recognition, primarily because it is located in a place of relaxation and offers daily physical fitness classes, cooking classes, and luxurious spa services such as hydrotherapy, musical therapy, and reiki.

Escobedo concluded by saying,"this is a signal for us to keep moving forward and shows us that we are on the right path. We are very motivated."
