Baja California is ready for the Fourth of July

Visitors are expected to bring in more than 54 million dollars for the state.

TIJUANA.- In light of the 238th anniversary of the independence of the United States, Baja is expecting a surge in visitors primarily from Southern California, according to Baja Tourism Secretary Oscar Escobedo.

According to Escobedo, "we have received reports of 70% hotel occupation rates near the beaches, although some hotels have occupation rates of up to 98%."

The tourism secretary indicated that occupation rates may increase during this weekend, primarily in destinations such as Rosarito, Ensenada, and San Felipe, which are usually some of the most popular destinations during these holidays. He added that most visitors are arriving from California, Arizona, and Nevada.

Escobedo continued by saying that "preliminary information indicates that at least 151,000 people will come to stay in Baja, which gives us a clear indication of recovery and change of perspective on behalf of hispanic and non hispanic foreign visitors."

Escobedo mentioned that visitors are expected to bring result in a positive economic impact of between 54.3 million dollars between July 3rd and July 6th, primarily in the hotel and restaurant sectors.

"We are very optimistic; results from other holidays this year show us a positive panorama, and shows that there is great U.S. visitor enthusiasm for tourism in Baja."

The Secretary of Tourism indicated that many places will offer thematic events based on 4th of July celebrations, including special discounts and bundles which are targeted directly at U.S. visitors.

"As we offer more activities and products to tourists we can bring in more visitors and that is the premise under which we have been working in the administration of State Governor, Francisco Vega de Lamadrid.

Finally, he indicated that a special operative spearheaded by the Secretary of Tourism has been to place seven mobile tourist booths strategic tourist zones; as well ensuring that visitor attention offices are available by extending their hours of operation. There is of course also the tourist attention line 078 which is available 24 hours a day.
