4th of July Tourism Surge Exceeds Expectations in Baja California

Hotel Occupancy Rate Increased

TIJUANA.- The number of tourists visiting Baja California over the long holiday weekend exceeded the expectations of the State's Secretary of Tourism, Oscar Escobedo Carignan.

According to Escobedo, "we are incredibly happy because once again tourism exceeded our expectations and proves that there is clearly a tourism recovery in the state." He stated that the hotel occupancy forecast was exceeded by nearly twenty points.

"We were expecting a hotel occupancy rate near the beaches of around 70%, but it actually reached around 89.3%. The port of Ensenada had an occupancy rate of 92.7%, Playas de Rosarito had a rate of 88%, and San Felipe registered 75.2%. Meanwhile, border cities Tijuana, Tecate, and Mexicali had an average occupancy rate of 58.5%," said Escobedo.

The functionary considers that many factors contributed to this success, namely all of the events and festivities tailored to 4th of July and other attractions offered in the region.

"For example, there was a 4th of July celebration at Hotel Rosarito that hosted more than 3,000 visitors, and in Tijuana the Expo Rock was incredibly successful. We have realized the event diversity generates great interest both among locals and foreigners," according to Escobedo.

The State's Secretary of Tourism office headed off a special operative this weekend, from Thursday through Saturday in which time 780 people were provided tourist information and travel tips.
