Mexican national team returns to Bay Area for first-ever international game

Top stars are expected to participate

The Mexican National Team returns to the U.S. this September for two key games during a FIFA fixture window that will help shape the team's roster for the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup and Copa America tournaments.

The Federación Mexicana de Fútbol (FMF) and Soccer United Marketing (SUM) today announced that the Mexican National Team will face World Cup standout Chile on Saturday, Sept. 6 (7 p.m. PT) in the first-ever international soccer game at the new Levi's® Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. Three days later on Tuesday, Sept. 9, Mexico will take on Bolivia at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo. (7 p.m. PT). Given the FIFA fixture window, top stars for Mexico and its opponents are expected to participate.

The upcoming matches at Levi's® Stadium - the new home of the San Francisco 49ers - and Dick's Sporting Goods Park, home of MLS' Colorado Rapids, will be Mexico's first matches in the U.S. after its run into the Round of 16 at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The next few months of the 2014 calendar year will be key as Herrera will use these international matches to begin preparations for upcoming tournaments such as the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, which Mexico last won in 2011, as well as the 2015 Copa América, which will be held in Chile next summer.
