The Magia Negra Tour will arrive in Tijuana this Friday

TIJUANA- She was the premiere dancer for the Tropicana club, and the headline singer for Buena Vista Social Club and this Friday she will be making a stop in Tijuana.

Omara Poruondo, known now as the Lady of Filin (a cuban term derived from the word "feeling";), continues to provoke and seduce those that hear her, and she is sure to do so this Friday, August 15, when she performs cuban boleros and songs at the Tijuana Cultural Center (CECUT) as part of the Magia Negra (Black Magic) Tour.

Her legendary voice has paired up on many occasions with that of Brazilian Chico Buarke and his like; Elenea Burke Ibrahim Ferrer, Silvio Rodriguez, Pablo Milanes alongside charismatic singer Francisco Repilado (AKA Compay Segundo). She has also recorded and sung at many concerts and delighted the public with the songs that have brought her the most recognition throughout the years.

Portuondo's career began in 1945 in Habana, Cuba, as the quartet singer of Las d'Aida, where she toured Panama, Granada, Mexico, Spain, Angola, and Finland and continued touring with the success of Buena Vista Social Club and her soloist career which took on universal attributes drawn on from her years of performing around the world.

The international recognition peaked after her work as the protagonist with Buena Vista Social Club was taped during a live performance in Amersterdam under the direction of German director Wim Wenders.

Omara Portuondo named this tour Magia Negra as a tribute to the first disc she recorded back in 1959, and at CECUT she will be performing some of her classic songs as well as others accompanied by a piano, percussion and drum quartet. After this show she the tour will continue in Brazil.

The performance at CECUT will begin at 8 pm and tickets are available for purchase on site. To learn more about this event and other activities offered at CECUT, visit their website here.
