How Chicharito arrived at Real Madrid

Looking for a new challenge

Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez is Real Madrid's newest player after a deal was reached between directors from the 'Whites' and Manchester United. The deal was completed as a loan with an option to purchase after one year. Real Madrid will take care of the Mexican striker's $5.25 million a year salary that he already received playing for the Red Devils.

Last Friday, a phone call changed Chicharito's life.

A deal with Juventus seemed more likely at the time. In fact, an agreement between both clubs was almost complete and the striker finally seemed at the end of a long dark tunnel in which he had hardly played during the last couple of seasons. Hernandez wanted to leave United and the Italian champion was a more than valid option. Suddenly, everything changed when his agent Eduardo Hernandez received a call from Real Madrid general director, Jose Angel Sanchez.

And so, what seemed like a ticket to Turin, suddenly changed completely. The plane that would take Chicharito to Italy changed its destination in less than 48 hours. It was now bound for Spain, to the Santiago Bernabeu stadium. The agreement with Juventus remained on hold. Real Madrid's offer changed everything completely, and this Sunday afternoon, Real and Manchester United closed a loan deal for the striker.

Chicharito agreed to terms as soon as he knew the deal was serious and that he could fulfill his dream of wearing the white Madridista jersey. He didn't hesitate, not even when they told him he would be the substitute striker of the team. He was told Karim Benzema would be the starting striker and that he would have to slowly earn a spot in the squad, and in a top class offensive line known as the BBC (Bale, Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo).

The striker accepted the challenge and accepted the fact that he will start the season with a clear disadvantage. He also committed himself to fill up the role given to him, working hard everyday and making a great effort to turn things around for himself.

Real Madrid studied different options before beginning negotiations with Chicharito. Falcao's name kept popping up next to Florentino's, even more so because of the Colombian's burning desire to play for Real and Jorge Mendes' ties to the club, than due to any actual interest.

After that, Negredo's name surfaced only to give way to Javier Hernandez as the final option, who will become Hugo Sanchez's successor at the Santiago Bernabeu, one of Real Madrid's biggest idols.

Will Chicharito fill his shoes?
