Belgian White and Cinnamon Horchata Beers by BLUE MOON

Here is our take on the flavors

TIJUANA/SAN DIEGO.- I recently got the chance to try out two beers by Blue Moon brewery:

the classic Belgian White Ale and a season special, infused with Mexican spirit, the Cinnamon Horchata Ale. These two styles are very different, but I admit I had kind of formed pre-concieved notions about, and was pleasantly surprised when I tasted them.

Blue Moon has a clear style in its entire line of beers, and truly innovates with each new beer. One particularity that any beer lover can appreciate is the variety.

Let's first talk about the Belgian White. One of the most versatile styles that we can find, and very delicious.

Also known as the "witbier" for its Belgian origins, Blue Moon presents us an example that meets all of the promises of the style: spiced with bread flavors, with an intense aroma of wheat, opaque yet clear color and with a ring of foam that quicky dissappears and reappers with a quick swill of the glass.

This is ideal to drink with a sice of orange to accent is citric properties; the Belgian White by Blue moon is a refreshing option perfumed with 5.4% alcohol and a smooth finish, which I would recommend to you in a heartbeat.

Our next beer is the Cinnamon Horchata Ale, with may be strange to those that aren't used to condimented beers. This beer was created as a homage to the flavors of traditional fresh beverages "aguas" prepared in Mexico, made of rice with a slightly milky aspect a free of alcohol. I expected to see something similar in the beer but was surprised instead by a yellow clear and creamy beer with a flavor that accents cinnamon flavors more than the rice flavors.

My fists impression was the dominant cinnamon flavors followed by a spiced flavor with each sip. This is a dessert type of beer, to be combined with a sweet churro or sweet bread. If you drink it with this in mind and you like other sweet flavored beers, this may become one of your favorites.

If you want to try it, hurry now because it will only be available for the next two seasons and only in limited quantities.
