Baja Governor Request Expedited and Secure Completion of Tijuana-Ensenada Road

Wants the road to be reoponed as quickly and safely as possible

MEXICALI.- Baja California Governor, Francisco Vega de La Madrid met with federal officials from the Secretary of Communications and Transportation (SCT) and the Federal Highways and Bridges (CAPUFE) department (the department in charge of administering toll roads), to discuss the technical reasons why the repair work done to the collapsed portion of the Tijuana-Ensenada toll road does not pass the test for the road to be reopened this weekend as original planned. The reopening has been postponed until this December, a year after it collapsed.

After listening to the officials, the Governor insisted that everything possible be done to expedite repair works to this important artery for the state in order to lessen the harm that its closure has caused to the productive sector and Ensenada's residents in general.

At the same time he emphasized that safety is paramount and to ensure that the reconstructed highway be in the best possible conditions to ensure safe travel, and to monitor it even once it has opened at all times.

In the meeting that took place this Friday, Mauricio Sanchez Woodworth, Director of Highway Infrastructure for CAPUFE and Clemente Pooh Hung, General Director of SCT's Technical Service division stated that the reopening postponed after cracks and erosion was detected, as well as water filtration in various parts which will affect reconstruction.

During the meeting, Governor Vega was also accompanied by Manuel Guevara Morales, Secretary of Urban Development and Infrastructure for the State of Baja.
