La Carmelita: Flavors of Home Cooking Come to Tijuana

Another foodtruck in the city

TIJUANA.- When adulthood arrives and it is time to leave home, one of the things that brings us most nostalgia is mom's cooking. We miss the meals that we grew up eating and constantly look for those recipes to remind us of the aromas and flavors of home cooking.

For Chef Jose Rodrigo Figuero, a graduate of the Culinary Art School, his most precious memories are of the meals that his grandma Carmelita would cook for him. He used this as inspiration to create home cooking recipes and where better to prepare them than a food truck?

Sharing space with Maquina 65 and Humo, this new food truck called La Carmelita is housed in a new spot to house foodtrucks on Avenida Melchor Ocampo. The spot just opened its multiple doors last week and has already attracted the attention of the most reknown local culinary artists, such as chef Javier Plascencia.

Best described as Mexican food with a twist that captures the essence of home cooked meals and using cooking techniques that Figueroa learned as a student. Now, with the support of familly and friends, La Carmelita represents a new option and new meals that will conquer the palates of locals and visitors alike, from Monday to Saturday 1pm to 8pm.
