Have you tried "El Local" in Plaza Fiesta?

The perfect combination of good food and craft beer

This past weekend, I visited the famous Plaza Fiesta in Tijuana to explore some of the bars there when I ran into a new place called El Local. I noticed that they sold different types of craft beer. I ordered one and chatted with Karim Gama of Benton Brewery and Manuel Chávez, one of the co-owners of El Local.

El Local is like the sister company of Slow Burger, considered by many to be the best hamburger joint in Tijuana, which means that you will also find good food here too. Sure enough, people arrived to eat and drink delicious local craft beer, of which there is a great variety. I can even say that I saw some labels that I hadn't seen anywhere else in the city, which is certainly a plus.

The name, El Local, came about precisely out of a desire to promote local beer culture and cuisine in Baja California and Tijuana. You will also find some U.S. labels here too, which is in line with our binational region norm.

El Local is not really a bar, it is more of a restaurant with a wide variety of beer. They have even included beer in some of their recipes, such as the Hamburguesa de la Casa with 50% beef and 50% pork in a sauce made primarily of Penélopebeer, a coffee porter made by Mexicali brewerFauna, served on homemade bread.

Another point in its favor are the many television screens to watch sports events. You can snack on buffalo wings or ribs, which are also served bbq style and are delicious. The meat is pefectly cooked and the sauces pair well with the beer they have for sale.

We also tried the zopes, a tortilla based meal, topped with portobello and escargot. It was a perfect combination of Mexican street food and gourmet Baja-Med cuisine. A great snack option.

We closed off the night with these exquisite torta sandwiches, filled with baked cheek and another one made of pork belly in bbq sauce with a beer based sauce. I don't say this often but anything on the menu is a good choice, as everything is delicious and nothing they make is from frozen food. Also, they haven't forgotten the importance of great presentation, making you feel right at home. For these reasons and more, I recommend that you visit El Local as soon as possible.
