There's a tasting on Thursday at Romesco's in Bonita

SAN DIEGO.- On Thursday, September 25th, you'll get a chance to taste some of the best wines from south of the border at Romesco's Mexiterranean Bistro by the Baja Wine Club, which is organizing the event at a cost of $15 the ticket if you reserve beforehand, or $20 on the day of the event.

Valle de Guadalupe in Baja has been referred to as the "Napa Valley" of Mexico, and has been visited by world renowned chefs, such as Anthony Bourdain, Andrew Zimmern, and Rick Bayless. There have been countless write-ups and reviews in magazines such as Food and Wine, Sunset, Travel and Leisure, and even the Wall Street Journal and other international media. Yet with all this acclaim, the wines of the region remain mostly inaccessible in the United States.

But that's about to change, if you leave up to Simon Shams and Jean-Paul Morlet. The San Diego duo are founding partners of Baja Wine Club, and in their vision, the wines of Mexico should be enjoyed and accessible to all wine lovers, especially in their native Southern California.

Club members will receive two bottles of Baja wine delivered to their home each month, and invitation to wine tasting events, such as this month's event at Romesco. The Baja Wine Club will showcase wines from the Ensenada and Valle de Guadalupe area, and it's a perfect opportunity to try some of the flavors that have made headlines in both the U.S. and the world.

Food will come from Chef Javier Plascencia, the poster boy for Tijuana and Baja's culinary renewal on the world stage. He'll treat guest with appetizers from Romesco's Mexican Bistro at special prices. The Baja Wine Club is already planning their next event at the restaurant Via Lago Trattoria in Eastlake on October 23 .

Members also get special promos for tastings like the one this Thursday, thanks to the Club's partnership with restaurants like Romesco's, Via Lago Trattoria and the aforementioned Savoie. For more information and reservations, check out their official site.
