Baja California Government Receives Funds In Support of Migrants

Funds will be distributed to non-profits

MEXICALI.-With the goal of helping out those who are most in need, and in this case specifically to help migrants, the State Government has received 5.8 million pesos in funds from the Secretariat of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP). The funds will be administered by the Secretariat of Social Development for the State (SEDESOE) to help non-profit groups that help migrants in the region.

The resources come from a program known as the "Migrant Fund" and is supported by more than 15 Baja Californian non-profits that directly assist this population, according to Ricardo Magaña Mosqueda, head of SEDESOE.

"The social policy that is being promoted by Governor Francisco Vega de Lamadrid states that ongoing support must be provided to vulnerable groups, such as those that are repatriated back to this country along our northern border states of Mexicali, Tecate and Tijuana", said Magaña.

He also explained that criteria to distribute funds in addition to whatever needs each non-profit has, will be to ensure they can continue to operate and offer the services and property administrate each site; another criteria that will be used is to rehabilitate and improve office space; and finally, to transport migrants to a different state if they so choose.

Magaña Mosqueda stated that each non-profit has presented a proposal with detailed financials, and have to be able to conclude each project as well as comply with statutory requirements.
