LOS CABOS.- In the aftermath of Hurricane Odile, besides numerous necessities needed on the ground in Los Cabos, the hurricane also left thousands of tourists stranded. Authorities have now confirmed that 27,000 tourists have been evacuated from the region thus far, and that in the next coming days 3,000 more will be evacuated.

The Los Cabos airport currently continues to only operate for humanitarian related flights, tourist evacuation, and official flights. It is estimated that, as of today, more than 230 flights have specifically been employed in the evacuation and recovery effort, approximately 90 of those were air force flights, and 144 were commercial airplanes. It is anticipated that in two weeks, the airport will once again return to normal operations.

Slowly but surely, Los Cabos will return to normal. At the beginning of this week, an economic reactivation strategy was implemented by Mexico's federal government. Eighteen banking branches and six stores are now up and operating.

In terms of public services, water has now been restored to around 60 percent of the victims, and power has been restored to around 19 percent. Mexico's power company has dispatched 3,900 workers to help repair and restore electricity service.

Meanwhile, humanitarian aid continues to arrive, including water, food and other basic necessities. Many national collection centers continue to receive support to be sent to Los Cabos.
