Blue Luna: More Than a Just Great Coffee Spot

A 100% Family Owned and Operated Local Favorite

Coffee culture in Baja California has been years in the making, and we have gotten to a point where we can honestly say that there are "spots" where you should go if you want to drink good coffee. This didn't appear from night to day, and it has taken ten years for the concept of an authentic coffee shop to come along. For many years, this idea was unthinkable and you were better off crossing the border to find a good spot.

In 2000, this small pioneer place was born and began to unknowingly create a coffee revolution in Tijuana: we are of course talking about Blue Luna.

Blue Luna was created on the whim of Rebeca Aguilar, the shop's creator who was tired of working for call centers and decided to follow her dream and open a great coffee place in Tijuana. Along with her fourteen year old brother, Julio, they started the shop. While Rebeca focused on the business, Julio traveled to Seattle, Italy, and other places to learn the art of making coffee, and became the head barista at Blue Luna upon his return. To this day, he is in charge of training anybody who gets behind the counter at any one of their four locations.

I have been a client of theirs for a long time now, and although many just come for the sandwiches, their coffee is the center of their business and you can tell it is their priority. From grain selection to final preparation, these are the types of drinks that can only be found at Blue Luna. A perfect example is their expresso in a biscuit cup which I drank this morning, or their coffee granita which is perfect for the hot weather. Creativity is what sets Blue Luna apart.

Ten years go by quickly, and it sounds easy, but this is no small accomplishment for a coffee place which continues to please customers year after year with its superb quality.

Blue Luna just inaugurated its forth location in Las Palmas, and maintains its original location on Pio Pico, one next to the Palacio de Gobierno in Tijuana, and one in Zona Rio. For more information and details, visit their official website.
