The Puerto Nuevo Lobster Festival

The village will host its annual lobster celebration this weekend

ROSARITO.- Just 40 kilometers south of the Tijuana/San Diego border, there is a small fisherman's village named Puerto Nuevo. A lobster village that is world-renown because of its delicious cuisine and known as the house of the best lobster in the world for its famous Puerto Nuevo style lobster.

Each year, during the month of October, this traditional meal receives well-deserved praise in an event called "The Puerto Nuevo Lobster Festival" to celebrate more than six decades worth of tradition. In the 1950's, it was common to see fisherman serving visitors from the U.S. their catches of the day, usually, lobster served with a side of rice, beans, fresh salsa, and plate-sized flour tortillas. It is a combination of flavors that never fails to satisfy.

It is estimated that each year, more than 100,000 lobsters are served up in the village, a huge amount considering that there are only 172 residents in Puerto Nuevo. Because of this, Puerto Nuevo has been crowned as the lobster capital, and has become an obligatory stop for all those that want to discover the richness of Baja California.

The 22nd edition of this annual celebration will take place this coming Sunday, October 12th, between 1pm and 6pm. There will be live music, folklore shows, and many other surprises in addition to delicious food, beer, and wine from nearby Valle de Guadalupe.

Cost of the ticket: $24 dlls or $300 M.N.
