The 5K Zombie Run combines fun with health

October 11th at 5pm in Tijuana

The Zombie Run, a five kilometer fun run, will take place to combine fun with the benefits of exercise and a healthy lifestyle. During a recent press event, organizers announced that the event will take place on October 11th, at 5:00pm in the children's museum Museo del Trompo.

Organizers expect thousands of people to participate in this 'haunting' event, that will be unique in that every runner will wear five flags that represent values that a healthy person must have, such as health, well-being, and energy. Meanwhile, the zombies will be illnesses such as obesity, cholesterol, and diabetes.

Organizers indicated that the theme is meant to bring awareness to the effects of a sedentary life and bad eating habits, which is why Zombies will try and steal flags from the runners.

"So, the mission of the runners, or those we have named "zombierunners" will be to protect their five flags throughout the five kilometers as they pass through areas that are 'infected'", said one of the organizers.

Event proceeds will go toward Fundacion Todo Fitness A.C., which promotes and spreads awareness and wellness in the community.

Government officials that support the event indicated that these types of events are important, as they not only are a fun but promote health in the city. They indicated that there has been a 10% increase this year in tourism activity, primarily from Southern California, and they anticipate that this will continue to increase with the reduced border wait times at the San Ysidor border over the past few weeks.
