Calle 13 Going Beyond Expectations in San Diego

The concert was filled with a little bit of everything

SAN DIEGO.- The musical group Calle 13 played during a recent sold out concert at the House of Blues. The Puerto Rican group is led by singer Rene Perez Joglar, also known as Residente, and his step-brother Eduardo Cabra Marines, also known as the Visitor.

Once inside, the band came out and immediately began playing "Fiesta de Locos" with an explosion of energy from the get-go, to which the audience immediately responded by dancing and euphorically screaming.

They then sang "El Baile de los pobres". "El Aguante" followed, a song that Rene says "talks about human resistance", followed by "Un beso de desayuno" (a kiss for breakfast) which immediately caused couples in the audience to demonstrate love for each other to a more mellow tune.

"No hay nadie como tu" lit up the place as Residente invited us to hug whoever was next to us and then jump at the fact that we are alive. After that, he sang "Me voy pal norte" dedicated to all immigrants and "La Vuelta al mundo" which was dedicated to those that like to enjoy life without harming others.

And, true to their protesting nature, they expressed their unhappiness with what is happening in Palestine and all of those conflicts, declaring that they are against any type of abuse to the tune of "Tango del Pecado" and "Ojos color sol" which people went crazy over. "La Perla" and "Latinoamerica" closed out the set.

Of course, as usually is the case, it wasn't really the end and after many minutes of applause they came out again and sang "Atrevete", "Por ti", and "Vamo' A portarnos mal." What an encore!

With eleven musicians on stage, and a nearly two hour long performance with some of their greatest hits and a couple of attempts to translate their messages into English, the group of Boricua brothers had effectively converted the place into a crazy person's party.
