Tijuana Signs Collaboration Agreement With IBM

Collaborating with the tech sector to promote the city's growth

TIJUANA.- The current city's administration wants to position Tijuana as a city at the forefront in terms of information technology, which is why Tijuana Mayor Jorge Astiazarán Orcí has signed a collaboration agreement between the city of Tijuana and IBM.

During the signing act, Mayor Astiazarán thanked IBM executives for their willingness to collaborate with a municipal government, contribute knowledge and know-how to impulse technological growth in Tijuana, and further it toward the concept of "an intelligent city".

General Manager and President of IBM Mexico, Salvador Martinez Vidal, indicated that with this partnership, one of their main goals will be to unite local and international leaders and discuss what is needed and develop specific solutions so that the city can develop this sector further.

The agreement consists of five lines of action, including developing public policy to allow the city to consolidate as a Smart City; impulse the tech industry, create a specialized tech cluster via academic potential present in Tijuana.

Additionally, social responsibility programs that contribute to the city's development will be promoted and innovation policies to foster growth in the region based on global trends will be put in place.

Also present at the signing ceremony was Secretary of Economic Development, Xavier Peniche Bustamante; IBM's External Relations Director, Jesus de la Rosa; Commercial Director of IBM in Mexico, Eduardo Gutierrez; Commercial Director of IBM in Baja California and Sonora, Jorge Garcia Lopez; and IBM's Commercial Representative, Juan Manuel Garibay.
