Sockers dominance over regional rival continues

Tijuana team has lost to San Diego four times this season

The division has been clinched. Dominance over a regional rival continues. The San Diego Sockers perhaps could not ask for more at this time.

And just because San Diego has won its second consecutive PASL-Pro Western Division title, it doesn’t mean the action at the Del Mar Arena would be less than entertaining.

Kraig Chiles scored four goals while Ze Roberto had his first two goals of the season as the Sockers beat visiting Revolucion Tijuana 15-10 Saturday.

The Sockers (12-2) scored five goals in the second and final quarters that included a pair of shootout goals by Chiles.

Chiles, a former San Diego Sate standout, now leads the Sockers in scoring with 29 goals this season.

Anthony Medina added a goal and three assists to help the Sockers improve to 14-0 in league play all-time at home. And San Diego did it with a handful of starters on the bench.

Goalkeeper Riley Swift gave way to Chris Toth to start. It was Toth’s second win as a starter this season. Midfielder Paul Wright was another notable player sitting out for the match.

That gave others a chance to gain some playing time and showcase their skills.

Diego Rovira had a pair of goals in the first half for the Sockers before leaving the game with a leg injury.

The loss sent Tijuana to a 7-8 record. The Revolucion has lost to San Diego four times this season.

The Sockers are scheduled to host the California Cougars Feb. 19 with a 6:15 p.m. kickoff.
