Crunch Chocolate Brand Apologizes About Insensitive Tweet

Nobody thought that their comment about the massacre at Ayotzinapa was funny

MEXICO.- The chocolate brand "Crunch", owned by Nestle, published an insensitive comment in its Twitter account over the weekend. The comment was in relation to the Ayotzinapa massacre, where it is believed that 43 students were killed.

Crunch's Twitter account commonly publishes things about the brand in Mexico, and the administrator of the tweet wrote a very offensive comment in light of a recent press release by the Attorney General suggesting that the remains of the students had been found and consisted solely of ashes and charred bones. The tweet reads "A los de Ayotzinapa les dieron crunch", which would be translated as "Those ones from Ayotzinapa were crunched".

Social media users criticized the insensitive tweet on such a serious topic. Crunch responded with a series of messages saying that the tweet was a product of a security violation and offering apologies. They state that the comment does not reflect the brand's opinion on the subject.

The level of indignation surrounding the massacre has incited protests throughout the country, and has movilized a record number of people in a march organized in Mexico City on October 22nd. "The largest march this century" according to various national and international news outlets, which report that there was a turnout of about 100 thousand (some reports indicate higher numbers of around 120 thousand).
