Tijuana Mayor Meets With French Ambassador

Seeking collaboration to attract french investments into Tijuana

TIJUANA.-With the purpose of strengthening friendships and economic ties between Tijuana and France, the city's mayor, Dr. Jorge Astiazarán Orcí, paid a courtesy visit to Mexico's French Ambassador, Maryse Bossière.

During the meeting, inside the Presidential Meeting Room, mayor Jorge Astiazarán pointed out that Mexico and France are united by the culture they have shared throughout the years as friends.

"I am aware of France's virtues in not only food, but also in their technology. Surely, Tijuana will be a city of opportunities for french enterprises to invest in and develop. Furthermore, we are right beside California, the United States' strongest state economically speaking and we are the closest place to Asia" said the mayor.

On his behalf, Tijuana's Secretary of Economic Development, Xavier Peniche Bustamante, acknowledged that the city has a great cultural range, which makes it appealing to foreign investment, as wells as being a thriving region, with infrastructure and growing needs.

Likewise, Ambassador Maryse Bossière, mentioned that Tijuana is a city that offers many opportunities for them, such as being open to a foreign investment: That is why there are five french companies interested in establishing themselves near the border, given that the technology they use is highly advanced for certain areas.

After the meeting, the french committee lead an event called: "Francia Innovan: Francia y Baja California (Innovacion, Gastronomia, Industria y Tecnologia), which contained a presentation regarding the virtues and opportunities they offer.

Present during the meeting were the Director for Economic Promotion of Sedeti, Gilbert Ulloa Arias; the Undersecretary for State Economic Promotion, Juan Antonio Martínez Zaragoza; the Honorary French Consul of the State, Fernando Padilla; the president of the Franco Mexican Chamber for Commerce and Industry, Alfred Rodríguez; chief of Economic Service of the French Embassy in Mexico, Thierry Frayssè;and the director of Foreign Affairs of the Champagnes-Ardennes region, Calude Poulet.
