Mexican who interrupted Nobel Peace Prize is deported from Norway

Adan Cortés had requested asylum, hopes to "not break the rules again"

OSLO.-Mexican student Adán Cortés, who interrupted the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony last Wednesday, has been deported from Norway and is on his way back to Mexico, according to his lawyer, who confirmed this to several media.

The 21-year-old was placed in a Detention Center for Foreigners throughout the weekend, after his request for political asylum having been denied, and is already on a plane to Mexico City.

Norwegian authorities determined that Cortés' asylum petition completely "lacked standing", according to his lawyer Holmen (although El Universal quotes another person as his lawyer, an alleged Jens-Ove Hagen, who said the same thing).

Last Wednesday, Cortés got really close to the stage where Nobel Peace Prize winners, Malala Yousafzai and Kailash Satyarthi were standing.

His lawyers qualified the decision as "legally unjustified", although is there not much to do about it now.

During his interview with CNN Español, Cortés explains how he managed to get into the ceremony, unnoticed, without invitation and so close to the prizewinners.

"I hope I never have to break the rules again or anything of the sort, I don't regret what I did because in the end it was worth it, I rather do things the right way, on the side of the law and I hope I'm never in need of doing it again in a criminal manner", pointed out Cortés.

He shields himself from critics, saying that he personally feels desperate by Mexico's situation. "If you had a bit of empathy with the families of those who had been murdered and kidnapped in Mexico, if you had felt that same desperation and helplessness without any form of expression and demand for justice, you would have acted the same way".
